As a come- from- away.. to this Land, this Place, where I live now- Maqtukwek, where I was born and anywhere I have ever roamed, I owe my deepest honor and respect to the Indigenous peoples who lived and understood all community & ecology before me. Thank you for your teachings and continuance, I have much to learn.
My gratitude to my settler ancestor relations – for my story, flesh and blood. Their work seeded my grandmother, my father; they birthed my children and their children.
I support visibility, priority, restoration and recompense to all oppressed and colonized peoples and environments.
I am dedicated to a future of cultural, spiritual & ecological respect and reciprocity.
Megan Holdfast has a Home on an Island, in a Valley, under a Mountain, amongst the Woods, beside a Brook on Cherry Hill- all in the land of the Beothuk, Mi'kmaq. She grew up on the endless plains of the Prairies which blessed her with a farsighted vision. With her eyes on the horizon she began a wanderlust journey into the abyss.
After a perilous and enlightening adventure underground, she surfaced to grow so much strength as to learn the tenderness of the earth. She grew two children and is always learning the unfolding of love and how to find home.
So far along this journey she has gathered work and life experience as an artist, housepainter, muralist, horticulturist, wanderer, busker, mother, partner and homesteader.
Here is a stream of words to describe a world:
Mixing- earth, paint, marks on the walls, circles, faith in a seed and Magik. The Timeless, the Lawless, the Fool and Her Dogs. Water, Bee Sisters, boots, books and Miss Moon. Coyote, trains, guitar, mandolin, drums, community and all playing with eyes closed. Listening, running, singing, tattoos, Wild Woods, cover with the stars and adventure! Where water meets land, climbing mountains, stillness, the absurd and Dreaming. Fire, Sun, gardens, reconciliation, revolution, school, babies, kids, soups, pies, bread, and Honesty.
