Coming Out, Going In
This is two in a series of paintings exploring living spaces. This painting’s narrative tells of childbirth, privation and the metaphysics of non-being.
Details in the image provide the subject and viewer with access points for time/space transport. The saturated memory and palette overwhelms the viewer with an unsettling nostalgia.
The impasto oils create an intimacy and realism with the subject and materials. The sculptural use of the medium is an attempt to escape a photograph’s flat limitations and to take control and sculpt what is tangible of this distorted, saturated memory. This process is a collision of worlds; it is both a recollection and realization of past experiences felt as an emotional being & physical body.
